Social Media Marketing | Blackpackers

At Blackpackers, I worked as the program manager and self-appointed storyteller, to shine a light on equity in the outdoors. Through a social media campaign called Belonging in the Outdoors, I shared the stories of climbers, campers, hikers, and skiers—many of them experiencing these activities for the first time.  These weren’t just meetups; these programs were gatherings of empowerment, opportunities for connection, and so much joy. Every post, every story was created to amplify the mission: to create access for underrepresented communities and foster equity in spaces where it has long been lacking.

Here’s an overview of the programs I supported and the stories I captured:

Rock Climbing Program

Blackpackers' Climb Night is more than just a chance to scale walls—it's a supportive, uplifting community for climbers of all skill levels. In a testimonial video, participants shared their experiences of encouragement, camaraderie, and personal growth.

Fundraising for Blackpackers Programs

With each social media campaign, I spotlighted the tangible impact of donations, showing how community support fuels transformational outdoor experiences.

Swimming Program

This program breaks barriers by providing non-swimmers the opportunity to learn how to swim. Participants like Yevgeniya Tsyganok’s husband and son began the program with no prior swimming experience and left with the confidence to enjoy the water. This initiative is a key part of our mission to promote equity in outdoor recreation, opening doors for families to embrace activities that were once out of reach.

Storytelling with purpose

My work with Blackpackers extended beyond creating content—it was about giving voice to the participants and their experiences. Every story was a reminder of the power of representation in outdoor spaces and I’m excited to continue advocating for access and belonging in the outdoor world.
